In college, I took an investment class that incorporated an investment selection contest at the beginning of the semester to see how each performed throughout the year. I absolutely loved the process and actually ended up winning! That’s when I knew I wanted to work in the investment industry. My first job out of college was an accountant position for McDonald Douglas. A friend’s older brother later recruited me to become a financial advisor for Dean Witter in Beverly Hills. I joined Prudential Securities and formed The Carothers Thomas Group with my partner, Duane Thomas. Since then, I moved back home to St. Louis and joined Stifel – the rest is history.
My greatest accomplishment is watching my clients send their children to college and helping them pursue successful retirements and financial dreams.
My three passions in life are helping people, evaluating companies, and continuously learning. The investment industry marries these three passions, which is why I decided to pursue a career as a financial advisor. Since the industry is always changing, I am striving to constantly stay on top of trends, regulations, and best practices – something I find to be truly enjoyable.
I started in the investment industry with the firm Dean Witter in 1985. In 1992, I joined Prudential Securities, and Scott and I first formed the The Carothers Thomas Group. In 1994, we joined Stifel with the opening of new branches in Chesterfield, Kirkwood, and Frontenac, and the consolidation of the firm’s two Clayton branches.
I am happily married to my wife of 35 years, and together we have four sons, two dogs, and two birds. Alongside rescuing animals, I love coaching. I have coached all four sons in youth sports, and they have all gone on to play high school and college athletics.
To me, clients are like family. And trust is one of the most important aspects for family’s to function properly. I wake up every day with a passion to speak the truth and connect with my clients on a higher level, journeying with them as they pursue their individual and generational goals. If something happens in their lives that may affect their journey, together we will make the necessary adjustments to their financial plan so they are still on track toward the future they’ve envisioned.
I began my career interning with Stifel from 2012 to 2014. In 2016, I made the move to Vivaldi Capital Management, and then to Edward Jones in 2018. I came full circle to join my dad, Scott Carothers, at Stifel in 2020. I earned a B.S. in Finance and Banking, Real Estate from the University of Missouri – Columbia and hold Series 7 and 66 securities licenses, as well as life, health, and variable insurance licenses (including annuities).
The newest member of the group, I began my investment industry career at Stifel in 2020. Prior to Stifel, I worked for Nestlé Purina as an associate for the company’s Order and Revenue Management department and then as a Sales Analyst (Walmart account). In my most recent role, I leveraged value-based data to drive meaningful conversations and collaboratively grow both Walmart’s business and our own. Today, I draw upon my experience to serve my clients in the best way possible – by analyzing my clients’ financial data and guiding meaningful discussions related to their wealth, family dynamics, and legacy.
I earned a B.A. in Business and a B.A. in Philosophy from Principia College and hold Series 7 and 66 securities licenses, as well as life, health, and insurance licenses (including annuities).
